The PH Septima is one of Poul Henningsen's most elegant pendant lamps. First shown as a prototype at the Danish Museum of Decorative Art in 1928, it received public acclaim. Based on Henningsen's three - shade system, this lamp's glass crown has four extra shades between the three basic ones. All seven shades are crafted from delicate yet sturdy Italian borosilicate glass. The clear glass shades are treated to have alternating clear and frosted areas. The frosted parts cover the clear ones below, spreading light diffusely while ensuring a glare - free, downward light distribution. There's also a neat round glass cup at the top to keep dust out of the lamp. In 1931, a smaller version, PH Septima 4, was launched, with the original PH Septima 5 based on different shade sizes. Henningsen even designed a metal version during development, but it never went into production. Its drawings later inspired the PH Artichoke. In the 1940s, production stopped due to raw material shortages. In 2020, Louis Poulsen revived the sophisticated seven - shade glass crown of the PH Septima 5, with better suspension and stronger glass for improved endurance and stability. The seven - shade glass crown emits a glare - free, downward light with a soft, pleasant glow. The frosted glass areas on each shade further soften the light.
