The inspiration for this collection comes from the 16th and 17th - century Dutch still - life paintings known as 'Vanitas'. These paintings featured symbolic items like skulls, fruits, butterflies, flowers, and musical instruments, which represented different aspects of life and death.
The collection is also influenced by the 'Cabinets of Curiosities' that emerged in the 16th century. Collectors used to keep their most valuable items, such as rare shells, ivories, rock crystal objects, and fine portrait miniatures, in specially designed rooms and cabinets to show them off. Our Prairie collection is inspired by the vast open plains of the American Midwest. The designs are based on vintage quilting squares, blending our love for vintage textiles and tableware!
