Design House Stockholm's NM& Sand Dinnerware Collection offers a unique dining experience. The dinner plates, part of this collection, are crafted from high-fired stoneware in a soft sandy shade. They have a matt structure that plays with light on the surfaces, and the stoneware is either fully or semi-glazed with a transparent glaze. The shapes and finishes are gentle, and each piece has multiple uses. For example, the handleless cup can double as a bowl, and the bowl can serve soup or act as a dish. Designer Carina Seth Andersson says, 'It's a bit mismatched, but it still fits. The forms bind the dinnerware together, and there's a very Scandinavian feel to it.'
The work on this dinner set for Nationalmuseum was part of a larger project Carina led over several years with Matti Klenell, Stina Löfgren, and TAF architects. They were in charge of the entire design and production of all furniture and products in the restaurant NM&. Sand represents contemporary Scandinavian design. In The Design Depot exhibition at Nationalmuseum, visitors can see the creation process of all objects in the restaurant, including Sand and the Unda drinking glass by Matti Klenell.
